The Minor Chord

Furch Guitars

The Furch logo

The first guitar with the Furch name on its headstock was built in 1981, the product of a small, secret 'garage' company in what was then Czechoslovakia. (At that time the communist regime prohibited all private enterprise, so founder Frantisek Furch pursued his passion underground.) He quickly became known throughout the Czech music scene as a premium guitar builder and his instruments were the choice of many top Czech musicians.

In 1989, the Velvet Revolution and the fall of communism created today's Czech Republic and allowed Frantisek to realize his dreams without fear of government persecution.

By the year 2000, growing demand led Frantisek to acquire a 16th century mill complex in the village of Velke Nemcice, where he set about transforming the property into a modern factory facility. In 2011 that old mill complex held the 30th anniversary party of Furch Guitars.

The Furch workshop

Today, Furch Guitars is led by Frantisek's son Petr who has brought a new generation of technology into the workshop to continue the firm's focus on quality and consistency. Under Petr's guidance, Furch instruments are now built with the optimum combination of technology and hand craftmanship.

Carl (owner of The Minor Chord) was privileged to visit the Furch workshops in 2016. The photos above and to the left were taken by Carl during his visit.

The Minor Chord is proud to be an authorized Furch Guitars dealer. These are extraordinary instruments at a very reasonable price, representing excellent value.

Most models in the Furch lineup are organized by colors of the rainbow. The Violet models are the most affordable, with appointments (and price) increasing through Indigo, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange and finally Red models. There are also 'Vintage' models with more traditional body shapes, as well as travel guitars with removable necks.

We usually stock Furch instruments up through the Yellow level, but if you are looking for a truly remarkable guitar we can order Orange and Red models. Here is the stunning cocobolo back of a Red-level Gc-LC that a customer ordered through us.

Yellow Deluxe Gc-SR

We are super-duper excited to receive Furch's brand new Yellow Deluxe models. We are one of the very few dealers in the US to have them!

If you're looking for the perfect combination of sound and comfort, look no further. Immediately, you'll notice the 'bevel duo' feature on this guitar, with comfortable bevels both under your right arm and against your body. Having bevels for both the right arm and the body will make playing for hours a piece of cake.

This guitar is available in two models with different top tonewoods. The Sitka spruce top on this model, in comparison with a cedar top, yields a brighter and more projecting sound. Blue G-CM

The Blue Series represents Furch's most affordable all-solid-wood instruments. At only $1,099 with a deluxe gig bag, this is a ridiculous amount of guitar for the money.

The all solid mahogany back and sides and solid cedar top, matched with the Grand Auditorium body shape, projects beautifully. Plenty of volume with nice clarity and sustain as well. Compared with the Yellow G-CR below, this guitar has a bit more of a crisp "spruce"-sounding top although it is in fact solid cedar. That could be due to the thin open-pore finish which allows the wood to breathe more naturally.

If you haven't checked out what Furch is all about yet, please come down and give their guitars a try!

Green G-SR

This is our first Green Series Furch - a G-SR Grand Auditorium in solid rosewood and Sitka spruce. The Grand Auditorium is a good body shape for varied styles of playing, a bit smaller than a Dreadnaught but a little bigger/wider than an OM or 000.

Like every Furch we've received here at The Minor Chord, it certainly doesn't disappoint in feel or sound. Sitka and rosewood is always a winning wood combination, and this particular example has strong clear basses and plenty of projection right out of the box. It should age nicely for sure.

Furch's full-pore smooth-slide satin finish neck feels great in the hand while you're sliding up and down the fretboard.

This guitar is an amazing value at $1,649.00 including the Hiscox hardshell case.

Blue OM-CM

Our newest Furch to arrive has so far been our best-selling style model. The OM body shape is a go-to for a versatile, all-around instrument. No problem handling heavy strumming or subtle fingerpicking.

This particular cedar top is a bit brighter than others right out of the gate we've noticed, but it will surely warm up with time. Really nice full projection of sound. The open-pore finish is understated and feels excellent.

Smooth to slide around without the drag of gloss. At well under $2,000 for an all solid OM with quality woods, it's easy to see why these Furch models have been popular. Deluxe Furch gig bag included.
