The "L" in G&L is Leo Fender. He started the company in the late 1970s after famously selling his original company to CBS in 1965. Leo Fender passed away in 1991 but before his death he arranged for the operation to be overseen by John C. McLaren of BBE Sound. Leo's wife Phyllis is the honorary Chairman of the company. G&L continues to make electric guitars and basses the way Leo Fender would have wanted them to be made - and it shows.

Ironically, after the CBS transaction, Leo Fender lost the rights to use the original names of the guitars he invented including the Telecaster and the Stratocaster. (These model names are now registered trademarks of Fender Musical Instruments Corporation, no relationship to Leo Fender or his estate.)

So, as you browse through the impressive instruments below, keep this in mind: If you're thinking Telecaster, look at the G&L ASAT model.; if you're thinking Stratocaster, look at the Legacy and S-500 models. Either way, you'll be impressed by the quality and playability.

ASAT Classic Bluesboy Semi-Hollow in 2-Tone Sunburst After a decent wait, our latest batch of two G&L ASAT Classic Bluesboy Semi-Hollow's have arrived! This one features the classic 50's-style 2-Tone Sunburst over the swamp ash body. We went for a lighter look with the Blonde model, this one features the darker Indian rosewood fretboard and 3-ply black pickguard. The slim C neck profile is easy to wrap your hand around and is ultra sleek with the clear satin neck finish. We like the stock G&L neck humbucker but this one we went for the Duncan Seth Lover upgrade. It has a certain character that matches the guitar just perfectly. As mentioned with the other, the 3 selector positions of sound are all fantastic. It's a simple setup, lightweight body, attractive look, what's not to love? ASAT Classic Bluesboy Semi-Hollow in Blonde After a decent wait, our latest batch of two G&L ASAT Classic Bluesboy Semi-Hollow's have arrived! This one features the attractive Blonde finish over the swamp ash body. Blonde is a great finish to subtly highlight the figure of the wood grain. The maple neck and pearl pickguard match the guitar wonderfully. It's easy to see why this model is one of the fastest moving for us, it's lightweight and the 3 selector positions of sounds are right on. The bridge M.F.D. will twang and bite away while the neck humbucker is designed to match the guitar well as it's under-wound with more of a bluesy and muddy tone. Fullerton Deluxe Legacy HSS in Jet Black If you're in the market for an 'S' style guitar to use in higher gain settings, this Fullerton Deluxe Legacy HSS could be the one for you. Fullerton Deluxe LB-100 in Old School Tobacco Sunburst Like very early original Fender instruments, G&L has decided to use pine in their tone wood arsenal. This new Fullerton Deluxe LB-100 features a western sugar pine body in the classic Old School Tobacco sunburst finish. The Caribbean rosewood fretboard and parchment pickguard round out the look. S-500 in Greenburst Come see why our customers have been absolutely digging these custom-built ebony fretboard S-500 models from our friends at G&L. Super smooth playability with the ebony board matched with the clear satin finish neck. A lot of folks like having the slightly wider than typical 1-11/16 inch nut width. On this guitar, we chose the unique Greenburst finish with the color matching headstock feature. If you want a run of the mill guitar, this isn't for you. But if you dig on green, this could be your dream instrument! The M.F.D. single coils convey the bell-like chime but also have a bit more warmth and growl with gain settings. Legacy in Vintage White We like to stock a '60's inspired G&L Legacy here at the store and our latest to arrive does not disappoint. The vintage white against the mint pickguard and parchment knobs and pickup covers really looks the part. The vintage size frets are a nice option that makes the neck feel very different than the standard medium/jumbo size frets typically used. LB-100 It's quite the long wait these days for U.S. made instruments to arrive. Just in we have this LB-100 in a very nice lightweight ash body in the Old School Tobacco sunburst finish. If you're looking for a rock solid straight-forward bass, the LB-100 is a fine choice. The split coil pickup sounds beefy and familiar, simple volume and tone controls for sound shaping. The saddle lock bridge yields great note sustain and make for easy setup adjustments. Fullerton Deluxe ASAT Classic Alnico There is something forever classic about Butterscotch Blonde, black pickguard Tele-style guitars that people just seem to love. We can understand why, it's the original style introduced so long ago and just has that fantastic look of highlighting the body wood grain against the maple neck and dark pickguard. ASAT Classic Bluesboy Semi-Hollow We look forward to each and every G&L instrument that comes our way but once in a while one arrives that we deem truly special. This particular Bluesboy Semi-Hollow has got the mojo and the entire package going for it. Extremely lightweight at 6.2 lbs, the figured book-matched swamp ash they picked for the top is just stunning. The Lemondrop finish is beautiful over the ash, reminiscent of a vintage natural with a slight yellowing. We chose to upgrade the neck humbucker to a Duncan Seth Lover and it balances absolutely beautifully with the M.F.D. bridge pickup. It's just amazing how good each of the three pickup positions uniquely sound. G&L ASAT Classic in Shoreline Gold We're super excited to receive this ASAT Classic model from our friends at G&L. Featuring the Shoreline Gold finish over the alder body, it pairs nicely with the tortoise pickguard and Indian rosewood fingerboard. We like the rear contour option G&L offers, it undeniably adds more comfort to playing the guitar and makes it a bit more lightweight as well. The Classic C neck shape is a good option for those who like a "middle-of-the-road" chunkiness. More beefy than their standard Modern Classic neck shape but not quite as big as the Deep V shape they offer. Feels great and sounds great plugged in thanks to the dual M.F.D. single coil pickups. G&L ASAT Classic Bluesboy Semi-Hollow in Old School Tobacco Sunburst Kick off 2021 with this gorgeous ASAT Classic Bluesboy Semi-Hollowbody just in from our friends at G&L. Immediately noticeable with the striking swamp ash body in the Old School Tobacco Sunburst finish. The tortoise pickguard and Indian rosewood fretboard round out the look. This is a popular model with folks, at only 6.8 lbs it's nice and lightweight and shouldn't wear you down. The chambered body will alter the sound a bit from a solidbody model. Beefy neck position humbucker tones, bright twangy bridge position single coil sounds, and a blend of both in the middle. The humbucker is surprisingly balanced with the bridge pickup as well. Fallout in Jet Black The Fallout has quickly become a favorite here among staff and customers alike. Based upon G&L's SC-2 body style of the 80's, it's compact and light, but truly roars! The combination of the P-90 neck and humbucker bridge pickup is a great mix. Also nice that the humbucker can be split to a single coil with the push/pull tone knob. Although it has a 25-1/2 inch scale length, it feels more like a short scale guitar because of the small body size. Bending strings is easy with the 12 inch radius and medium jumbo frets. Legacy in Shell Pink Along with classic guitar finishes like sunburst, we try to stock some less typical colors as well. We are extremely pleased with the job G&L has done with this Legacy model. The vibe we were going for is the custom color look of the early 1960's Strats. The Shell Pink finish over the Alder body immediately stands out. ASAT Classic Bluesboy Semi-hollow in Clear Red As soon as this guitar arrived, the consensus was WOW! What a pretty guitar!! Once again, the folks at G&L have done a stellar job with this semi-hollow ASAT-with-a-bite. The lightweight body has a gorgeous clear red finish over the swamp ash. The modern classic profile neck with 1-11/16 inch nut gives the player a generous amount of space for both the left and right hands. Sonically, the bridge pickup can cut through like one would expect but the real treat is the snarling bite that you can achieve with the P-90 at the neck - great for warm jazz, blues, or grungy rock 'n' roll. And don't forget the beautifully-balanced middle position which incorporates sonic elements of both pickups. Our G&L guitars are flying out the door, and for good reason. Tribute Doheny in Jet Black We are pleased to announce our first G&L Tribute Doheny to arrive at The Minor Chord. The Doheny gets its name from the famous beach in the heart of Orange County, California where 60's surf pioneers ruled the waves. The Jet Black finish is a nice match to the black block inlays over the maple fingerboard. G&L developed the wide bobbin M.F.D. pickups for this guitar.They describe the pickups as being more about "jangle than twang", while being "rich in harmonics yet surprisingly full." It certainly feels good to play, and the pickups do sound nice. The Dual-Fulcrum vibrato is sturdy when in non-whammy use, but can also handle big whammy dips easily.
