D-35

The D-35 has been one of the Martin classic dreadnaught models since the mid-1960's.

The D-35 distinguishers itself from the D-28 with its 3-piece rosewood back and antique white binding on the body and neck. It has that characteristic big Martin dreadnaught sound, but the low end seems to be a bit more balanced with the mids when compared to a D-28. So if you're looking for a slightly less-boomy Martin dreadnaught, the D-35 might be your guitar of choice. There's no shortage of power, however; the D-35 will easily handle most things that come its way.

Come see why the D-35 has a following all its own! $3,099.00 in Martin molded hardshell case.

The specs:

  • Made in Nazareth, PA
  • Dreadnaught body shape

GPC-16E-01

Martin's 16 Series is a good way to get a Nazareth, PA built guitar that will sound good, with a lot of features. The Grand Performance shape with it's wide lower bout and deep body width will give good Dreadnaught-like bass response, but with a slimmer waist for easier reach and fingerpicking playability. This guitar can be driven hard and will hold up to heavier strum attacks with the longer 25.4 inch scale length. The ebony fretboard plays nicely and the Fishman pickup system will deliver the goods plugged-in.

Martin's are very hard to come by these days, if you're in the market for a good all-around versatile Martin, give this one some thought. $1,699.00 in a Martin softshell case.

The neck has a comfortable carve and the 1-7/8 inch nut is ideal for the 12-string spacing. The Fishman MX system will get you where you need to be plugged-in. New off the Martin line is this striking GPCX2E Macassar. The solid Sapele top really stands out with the nice striping in the grain. Martin has different HPL patterns they use, this one has the dark rich-looking Macassar laminate. Compared to a solid spruce top guitar, the sapele will be a bit darker sounding, especially when broken in over time.

The Grand Performance shape is a nice compromise between a Dreadnaught and an OM. Folks are digging the Fishman MX system with it's minimal controls hidden in the soundhole. If you're looking for Martin quality and sound at under the $1,000.00 price point, give their X-Series instruments some consideration. Quality Martin gig bag included.

000-16E

Both Martin's 15 and 16 Series instruments have been long-standing staples here at The Minor Chord. The 16 Series has gotten an upgrade and here is one of their new models, the 000-16E.

Featuring a Sitka spruce top and grenadillo back and sides, it has a nice balanced tone with the dense grenadillo (think rosewood) adding a glimmer quality to the sound. Great for fingerstyle with the shorter 24.9 inch scale. Smooth playability with the ebony fretboard over the satin finish modified low oval neck.

The Fishman Matrix VT Enhance pickup makes for easy live playing or recording applications. The auto-mute feature of the built in tuner guarantees quiet tuning when you're plugged in. Another versatile offering from our friends at Martin. Soft shell bag included.

000-13E

Martin's Road Series guitars are meant to give the player a great all-around instrument for many occasions. This has been one of our more popular Martins over the last year. Featuring all solid wood, a comfortable 000 body size, and a Fishman MX-T pickup with a built in tuner, it's easy to see why. Acoustically it has a very nice balance of lows/mids/highs. When plugged in, a cool feature of the Fishman MX-T system is a true bypass which mutes everything when the tuner is activated.

OM-28

When a customer walks in and says to us, "I want one guitar that does everything!" we suggest the Martin OM. We have always stocked the OM-21, which is a dressed-down version of this guitar, the OM-28. The OM size is more comfortable than a dreadnaught but it's not so small that you lack sound.

Strumming or fingerpicking are no problem. There's a reason the Martin OM style is one of the most copied body shapes in the world. Great balance, feel, a true winner. The combination of rosewood body, spruce top, and ebony bridge and fretboard is the go-to wood scheme for most players.

  • OOO/OM body size

00-28

Martin redesigned the OO-28 in 2018 and we're impressed. The 00 body shape is super comfortable for most people and never hunches up the shoulder.

Amazing warmth and balance from lows to highs. The OO-28 is wonderful for intimate playing situations - a great recording or songwriting guitar. The short scale neck and 1-3/4" nut width are a nice combination of not reaching too far but having adequate space for the fingers.

Molded Martin hardshell case included.

HD-28

The Martin HD-28 has established itself as a Martin classic. Boomy, big tone with clarity as well. A fine guitar for the bluegrass/jam circle and recording that larger acoustic rhythm sound. The aging toner on the top with the nickel butterbean tuners looks sharp. The herringbone trim is more subtle than flashy inlays, but folks tend to love its simplicity, especially here in conservative New England. Countless musicians have played the HD-28, come check it out!

The specs:

  • Dreadnaught body shape
  • Solid Indian rosewood back & sides
  • Solid Sitka spruce top with aging toner

D-18

There's not much we can say that hasn't already been said about Martin's all-time classic, the D-18. Big sound from the Dreadnaught body; the classic tone of the mahogany and Sitka spruce tonewood combination. Strum away in your living room or in the bluegrass jam, you'll certainly be heard playing the D-18.

It was redesigned a few years back with the slightly wider 1-3/4 inch nut with, aging toner top, and nickel open-gear butterbean tuners. Hardshell case included.

00-15M

Along with the D-15M, the 00-15M has always been a standard Martin stocking model here at The Minor Chord. Compared to dreadnaughts or OM size guitars, it's much harder to find 00's in general. Not only that, typically because of the smaller compact size, sound tends to lack. The 00-15M however, is an exception.

The simplicity of the satin finish and quality tone woods is beautifully understated. All solid mahogany, including the top, yields an extra warmth and depth that the brighter spruce tops don't always have. The neck profile is slim and easy to manage.

As we mentioned with the D-15M, these guitars break in wonderfully over the years. U.S. made, quality woods, simple look, a solid choice for that Martin sound. Hardshell case included.

The specs:

  • 00 body shape
  • Solid mahogany back and sides
  • Solid mahogany top
  • Satin finish
  • Mahogany neck
  • Rosewood fretboard and bridge
  • Diamonds and squares abalone inlays
  • Modified low oval neck shape
  • 25.4 inch scale
  • 1-11/16 inch nut width
  • Nickel butterbean tuners
  • Hardshell case included

Martin 00-15M Lefty

We like to have a few left handed guitars in stock here at the store, including a decent U.S. made solid wood model. Because of the superior comfort and popularity of the 00-15M, we stock it left handed as well. Despite being a smaller body shape, the all solid mahogany wood scheme yields plenty of warmth and volume. Understated looks but elegant at the same time. These wear in nicely as the years progress as well. Hardshell case included.

The specs:

  • 00 body shape
  • Solid mahogany back and sides
  • Solid mahogany top
  • Satin finish
  • Mahogany neck
  • Rosewood fretboard and bridge
  • Diamonds and squares abalone inlays
  • Modified low oval neck shape
  • 25.4 inch scale

  • Nickel butterbean tuners
  • Hardshell case included

D-15M

The satin finish and simplicity of Martin's U.S. made '15'-Series instruments creates a beauty of its own. All solid mahogany guitars have a deep rich sound that spruce top models tend to lack. The slimmer nut width and the satin finish on the neck and body make a very smooth-playing instrument.

These models break in very nicely over the years as well. If a big, boomy sound is what you're looking for, the '15' Series is a good choice. For fingerstyle and a super comfortable size, check out the Martin 00-15M. Hardshell case included.

The specs:

  • Dreadnaught body style
  • Solid mahogany back and sides
  • Solid mahogany top
  • Satin finish
  • Mahogany neck
  • Rosewood bridge and fretboard
  • Diamonds and squares abalone inlays
  • Modified low oval neck shape
  • 25.4 inch scale
  • 1-11/16 inch nut width
  • Nickel butterbean tuning machines
  • Hardshell case included

Dreadnaught Jr

Released in 2015, the Dreadnaught Jr. guitars immediately impressed us.

The Dreadnaught Jr. is a scaled-down Dreadnaught shape with a slightly shorter 24-inch scale. This makes it extraordinarily comfortable to play. Another nice surprise is the solid sapele back and sides, an unusual feature in an under-$1,000 guitar. The top is available in solid Sitka spruce or solid sapele.

Thanks to the all-solid-wood construction, this guitar delivers a much bigger and surprisingly fuller sound than one would expect from the small body and short scale.

With its optional Fishman Sonitone electronics, you can enjoy this wonderful little guitar plugged in as well.

We stock the Dreadnaught Jr. Model DJr-10-02 (pictured), with a solid Sitka spruce top. Other models are also available by special order:

  • DJr-10-01 (Solid Sapele top)
  • DJr-10-01 (Solid Sapele top with pickup)
  • DJrE-10-02 (Sitka spruce top with pickup)

OOO Jr-10

Strung from the factory with Martin MM12 Retro lights, these strings do bring out a warm old-timey sound to the guitar. Martin gig bag included.

OOOC Jr-10

And here we have the cutaway acoustic/electric version of the 000 Junior series, the 000CJr-10E. Shouldn't cause any uncomfortable issues for most players with the shape and shorter 24 inch scale. The Fishman Sonitone pickup system is convenient to have if needed. The Martin MM12 Retro strings seem to be a nice fit for these guitars. Martin gig bag included
